AU Elections
The AU president’s job goes on offer every February where students enter the election race for arguably the best job in University.
Once you have decided that you would like to run for the job then you need to do the following:
Election Time Table
11th January:
- Collect Nomination form from AU office (also available on the web site)
18th January:
Nominations Open
- Begin to hand in all forms
- Arrange a meeting to discuss your proposed manifesto with Richard Lancaster.
25th January:
Nominations Close all forms must be in by this date
- Hand in Nominations Form with 1 proposer and 10 seconders (seconders need to be involved in a sports club, Captain, Vice Captain etc). Please ensure form is clearly legible, all details have been completed and signed.
- Hand in designed poster in both English and Welsh
- A4 English Poster
- AND
- A4 Welsh Poster
- OR
- A4 Bilingual Poster
- AND
- A3 Bilingual Poster
- Hand in Manifesto in both English and Welsh
- Photo of yourself
- A cheque for £25 pounds for your campaign
26th January:
Nomination withdrawals
- Nominations may be withdrawn up to 1pm on this date
4th February:
Election week begins
- Campaining begins
- Candidates can begin going and talking to club captains, putting up posters and getting support for their campaign
9th February
Hustings (in Management meeting)
- Held in Dining Room C and starts at 1pm
- Chance for candidates to stand up with their proposer and explain why they would like to become AU President
- Students are allowed to ask questions of the candidate with regards to their campaign
- F ormat:
- Each proposer speaks for 3 minutes on why they believe their nominated candidate should be elected (order is determined by surname alphabetical order of candidate). All are present.
- Questions are written down by the Management committee
- Three questions are drawn from a hat and deemed suitable by the returning officer.
- All candidates leave the room. In order each is invited back into the room to answer the selected questio ns
11th February
Election/ Polling Day
- Voting starts at 10 am just on the Fulton House foyer and closes at 5.30pm
- You can set up camp where ever you want as long as its not on Fulton house steps or the digital media building and have appropriate permission.
